“An Apostle is a teacher and a student, a raw model and a martyr, a superman and a mortal, a man of the past and the present, a historical figure and an individual. The number for apostles is based on the twelve ancient tribes of Israel from the Old Testament. Apostles are the twelve pillars of Christianity for the new world. These men of power represent a convergence of both ancient and modern modes of thought. It took nine months to gestate twelve paintings of an unusual format, 82 X 16 inches. United by this elongated dimensions, the canvases in-and-of themselves speak of human presence by their exaggerated verticality. My Apostles are based on real people of today. Their bare body reveals them in true and unconcealed nature. They are proud to take a stance for naked truth.  While each contains a unique body language, when seen together, the paintings begin a conversation with each other. Christ or “The Teacher” is not represented in this series as the viewer literally takes that place in confronting these men and thus completes the work. I believe that art makes religion universal and the only religion that I practice is art. My XII Apostles are loosely based on Biblical narrative. My aim for these paintings is to ask the big questions about our human presence: who are we, where do we come from, and where are we going?”
